Policies and Operations

PARKING

Parking is available either in the driveway or on the street (between driveways or along the side on Stonebridge).

Please park legally, facing the direction of traffic.

Kindly refrain from using or obstructing any of my neighbors' driveways for any reason. Parking at the base of my driveway extending to the stop sign will impede their ability to exit and may result in a parking ticket.

PRACTICE

This studio is dedicated to students who wish to learn piano. It is not intended as a substitute for music therapy or as an introductory "sampler" class.

Students are expected to maintain a regimen of daily practice. Primary and Elementary students are requested to practice a minimum of three hours per week (30 minutes per day).  Intermediate and advanced students will require more practice.

The initial lessons will focus on instructing the student (and lesson guardian) regarding effective practice techniques.

MAKE UP LESSONS

It is understood that unforeseen circumstances may arise. To ensure students recognize the importance of consistent practice and lesson attendance, make-up sessions are offered for instances of illness or unexpected events.

Availability for make-up sessions is extremely limited.

To be eligible for a make-up session, the studio must be notified prior to the missed lesson. Priority scheduling will be extended to students who were absent due to illness or prearranged participation in team sports, choir, band, or dance ensembles.

Please be advised that make-up sessions are a privilege no longer commonly provided by most studios. Families who misuse this privilege or engage the studio in scheduling drama will forfeit their eligibility for make-up sessions.

All scheduled dates should be marked on your calendar.

Accepting the Google Calendar invitation is crucial. Declining may automatically remove your student from all future calendar events, and this error may not be noticed, potentially leading to missed scheduling.

Tuition is not calculated based on the number of lessons per month; therefore, no refunds, rollovers, or guarantees are provided for missed lessons. Consistent attendance is highly encouraged.

WEATHER

Should school closures occur due to inclement weather, lessons will proceed virtually (or you may choose to take a snow day). No make-up lessons will be provided for snow days.

Should weather conditions appear questionable, you are always welcome to attend virtually.

Whenever safety is a concern, please opt for a virtual session.

TUITION

Tuition reserves your monthly lesson block and covers the majority of your materials.

Tuition is calculated annually, not on a monthly or per-lesson basis.

Tuition is averaged to ensure equal monthly payments. The number of lessons per month does not affect the tuition amount.

There is no "roll over" to the subsequent month. Tuition is based on enrollment, not attendance.

Active students retain their initial tuition rate. Your tuition will not change unless you take an unpaid break or time off. Reentry will be at the current new student rate.

LESSSON BLOCKS

Kindly show consideration for preceding and subsequent appointments by refraining from aggressive or repeated knocking or ringing the bell.

All communication with the studio should be conducted via text message or email. Phone call responses will not be provided during another student's lesson block.

Please conduct all necessary business at the commencement of your assigned lesson block.

Should you be unable to attend your regularly scheduled lesson block and opt for an alternative time, please inform the studio if you subsequently decide to revert to your original lesson time. This is important as make-up lessons may be scheduled during those blocks.

Please be mindful that a virtual student may be awaiting their online lesson.

Lesson blocks are reserved exclusively for students whose tuition payments are current.

ENDING
LESSONS

Kindly show consideration for students on the waitlist for lesson blocks by sending an EMAIL at the end of the month if you are not going to continue lessons.

DUAL INSTRUCTION

This studio maintains a policy against dual enrollment with any other private piano studio.

Occasional sharing of performance venues may occur.

This studio will not knowingly accept any student pursuing dual enrollment. Students discovered to be dually enrolled will have their enrollment in this studio terminated, and no refunds or makeups will be issued for the remainder of the month.

This policy does not apply to school-based supervised practice blocks offered by some middle or high schools.

No individual, other than the instructor, is permitted to make notations—whether positive, neutral, or negative—in the student's lesson materials.

FOOD/DRINK

Kindly ensure all food and beverages are finished prior to entering the studio.

Under no circumstances should food or beverages be consumed at or placed upon the piano. Liquids pose a significant risk of costly damage to the soundboard, strings, and other integral components. Similarly, crumbs can obstruct the instrument's delicate internal mechanisms.  Students/parents/lesson guardians are responsible for any damages.

Smoking is strictly prohibited on the property.

STUDIO GROUNDS

As the piano studio is situated within my private residence, it is imperative that it always be regarded and respected as such.

Kindly assist in maintaining the premises to preserve the sanctity of my home.

The disposal of gum, cigarettes, and other debris on the premises is strictly prohibited. Please ensure such disposables are taken with you.

Kindly remain on the designated sidewalk and/or driveway.

Please refrain from throwing rocks, or any other items, in the yard, near vehicles, or into the road. Rocks found on the ground in the yard should not be disturbed.

Please monitor your child's use of the bathroom facility.

MATERIALS

Students are required to have and utilize their materials for each weekly lesson.  This includes their practice sheet(s).

In the event of lost materials, replacements must be acquired within two weeks at the student's (parent's/guardian's) expense.

Students may be excused from lessons if they consistently arrive without the necessary materials. No make-up lessons will be provided in such instances.

Replacement materials are priced as follows:

Replacement Binder with pocket: $10.00 each

Replacement License prints: $1.00 per page

Replacement Sheet Protectors: $1.00 each

Replacement books will be charged at the current rate.

CONDUCT

As a piano instructor, I am dedicated to fostering a supportive and nurturing environment for all my students and their families. The nature of one-to-one education is highly concentrated, allowing for the development of a strong bond between teacher and student.

Nevertheless, the studio reserves the right to immediately terminate a student's lessons without refund for the following infractions:

  1. Inappropriate behavior directed toward the instructor by the student. This encompasses violent outbursts, profanity, defamation of character, unwelcome advances, or any other conduct that deviates from common respect and decency.

  2. Inappropriate behavior directed toward the instructor by a student's parent(s) or lesson guardian(s). This includes all behaviors previously enumerated.

  3. Inappropriate behavior directed toward studio property by a student or parent/lesson guardian. This includes violent acts such as striking or kicking the piano, wall, vehicle, window, or any other item.

  4. Attendance at lessons in any state of intoxication.

  5. Failure to remit full payment for monthly lessons.
